Born Abdul Mumin Umu Salma Tando, Salma Mumin is a Ghanaian actress, model, movie producer, entrepreneur, and brand ambassador.
The successful entrepreneur-cum-actress is known to many of her followers as the “Wa Mermaid” since she comes from the Upper West Region in Ghana.
The ‘Wa Mermaid’ rose to fame after she played the role of a midwife in the movie titled, “Passion & Soul” which starred the likes of Majid Michel, and Jackie Appiah.
Salma’s acting career in the Ghanaian movie industry has earned her several awards, including ‘Best International New Actress’ at the 2014 Papyrus Magazine Screen Actors Awards, and ‘Best Actress in a Leading Role’ at the 2019 Ghana Movie Awards.

Salma Mumin was born to Mr. Mohammed Tando and Mrs. Asibi Mohammed Tando.
The actress who originally hails from Wa in the Upper West Region of Ghana has lived most part of her life in Accra, Ghana.
Salma comes from a very poor family background. Her parents divorced when she was very young.
The actress has 13-15 other siblings.

Salma Mumin had her early education at Odorkor Primary School in Accra, Ghana.
She had her Senior high school education at Insaaniyya Senior High School located at Kasoa in the Central Region of Ghana.

According to her, she lost interest in furthering her education at the tertiary level after senior high school because her poor parents could not finance her education. This is how come she took her acting career seriously.
After a while, Salma gained admission to the School of IT, Management & Professional Studies where she graduated with a degree in Travel, Tourism and Hospitality Management.

When some hot ‘wedding’ photos and videos of Salma Mumin and Ghanaian actor and fashion designer, Elikem Kumodzie, popped up on social media, most Ghanaians got confused and thought the two had secretly married as the newest husband and wife in town.
Both shared the same ‘wedding’ photos and videos on their respective Instagram pages with the caption: “We are Happy to Share our story and Joy and Work with the rest of you. Bride @salmamumin Groom @elikemkumordzie”.
It only turned out that those so-called wedding photos and videos were advertisement for a company.
There had earlier also been rumours of Salma Mumin and Ghanaian movie director, Kofi Asamoah having tied the knot in a secret traditional marriage when similar ‘wedding’ photos between the two surfaced online.
That also turned out not to be true as the two only turned up for a wedding of a colleague actor.
Salma is also on record to have said that she once dated actor Ruffy Samuel Quansah aka Honey Choochi Choochi of Tigo advert fame and she doesn’t regret it.
Movie Career
Salma’s acting career started when she was in senior high school at Insaaniyya Secondary School.
According to Salma — who was the entertainment prefect for the 2007-year group of Insaaniyya Secondary School — she used to jump the school’s wall for auditions outside.
“I used to jump the wall at school to go for auditions. I believe that’s where my passion for acting got stronger.”
Since 2012, Salma Mumin’s acting career has seen her play various roles in Ghanaian movies such as Seduction, No Apology, College Girls, Leave my wife, The Will, No Man’s Land, What My Wife Doesn’t Know, and John & John.
She had her breakthrough after playing the role of a midwife in the movie with the title, ‘Passion & Soul’ which featured other stars like Jackie Appiah, Yvonne Nelson, Majid Michel, Edddi Nartey, and Ekow Smith Asante.

In 2015, Salma as a film maker produced her first movie titled ‘No Man’s Land’ which was written and directed by Pascal Amanfo with Salma as the lead character.

Salma Mumin first rolled out her business plan by operating a mineral water depot in a container shop before opening Salma’s Eatery on the same land at East Lagon, Accra.
Unfortunately for Salma, the mineral water business collapsed because a confidence trickster tricked the shop attendant on Christmas day to take all her stock away.

Days after the unfortunate incident, a friend suggested to her to turn the place into a food joint to serve the needs of patrons of a popular pub adjacent to her container shop, which has today become known as Salma’s Eatery & Pub.
In 2019, Salma Mumin officially launched a clothing line and fashion brand called Lure which was started in 2018.

Salma is the ambassador for Slim Smart — a weight loss product.
Her contract with Slim Smart was recently extended, four years after joining the mother company, UNICHEM Ghana (Hollywood Nutrition).

The two schools which are located in the Wa Central of the Upper East Region are Chegli primary school with a total population of 256 pupils, and Kperisi LA primary school which has 378 pupils.
