Born Clara Amoateng Benson, Maame Serwa as she is popularly known, is a Ghanaian actress, and brand ambassador based in Kumasi, Ghana.
She started her acting career at an early age, playing child roles in most of the Twi-speaking ‘Kumawood’ movies in Kumasi.
In 2018, Maame Serwaa was featured in a BBC Africa documentary where she talked about her journey in the movie industry on the theme: “Thriving Ghanaian Movie Industry”.
Miss Clara Benson has garnered some prestigious awards in her career as a Ghanaian actress, including the 2015 “Kumawood Best Actress Of The Year”, and the 2018 “Ghana Tertiary Awards Best Actress Of The Year”.

Maame Serwaa was born to the late Rose Benson and Opanyin Kwabena Nyame in Kumasi.
Her mother, Madam Rose Benson sadly died on Thursday, December 7th, 2017, after a short illness in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
Madam Rose Benson aka Maa Rose, who passed on at age 48, was buried on January 20th, 2018, at Atwima Koforidua in the Ashanti Region.
Maame Serwaa is the only daughter of the 3 children (2 boys) her late mum left behind.

Maame Serwaa attended Serwaa Nyarko Girls’ Senior High School in the Ashanti Region of Ghana.

In a chat with BBC correspondent Ben Hunte, the Kumawood actress talked about how she began her acting career in the Twi-speaking Kumawood movie industry which is popular in Kumasi and the Ashanti Region as a whole.
When Ben Hunte asked her the number of days she goes on set in a week, and also, how it feels like being on set, this is what Maame Serwaa had to say:
“I appear on set almost every day. Yeahh…! Unless maybe I have a class to attend that is when I get some free period during lecture hours.
“It’s great being on set. You get to meet new people and chat with new friends.
“Yes! So I love being on set.”
Maame Serwaa Movie Career
At age 6, Maame Serwaa had already started her acting career by playing child roles alongside her colleague, Yaa Jackson in Kumawood movies.
It all started one day when her late mother, Madam Rose Benson took her to a movie set to replace another young actress who failed to turn up for a role that same day.
Maame Serwaa has since graced our screens from childhood to adulthood as one of the best Kumawood actresses combining acting and education together throughout her life.
In 2018, the Kumawood screen goddess signed a five-year management deal with Silvanus Records.
She has starred in many movies including: Merciful Satan, School Girl, Seed of Rejection, among others.
